Are Online Casinos Legal in Canada?

It depends on your province. Here is how the rules work, and how we check every casino before we list it.

Our rule: we only list a casino if we have checked that it is legal and available in the province you are playing from. If its status changes, we remove it.

Why there is no single answer for Canada

Gambling in Canada is regulated province by province. There is no one national licence for online casinos, so a site can be legal in one province and outside the rules in another. That is why we never call a casino "legal in Canada". We tell you where it is legal.

We currently cover Ontario and Alberta. For other provinces, check your provincial regulator before you play. We will add provinces only after we can verify their rules ourselves.

How we verify every casino

  1. Regulator check. We confirm the operator appears on the official list of registered operators for that province.
  2. Province match. We confirm the casino accepts players from the province we list it for.
  3. Age and rules. We show the correct minimum age and the responsible gambling tools the operator offers.
  4. Re-checks. We review listings regularly and remove any casino whose status changes.

We do not list casinos that are unregistered in provinces with a regulated market. Our About page explains how we are paid and why that never changes a rating.

How to check a casino yourself

  1. Open your provincial regulator's website and find its list of registered operators.
  2. Match the casino's exact name and web address to an entry on that list.
  3. Look for licence details and responsible gambling tools in the site footer.
  4. Read the terms on withdrawals and identity checks before you deposit.

Frequently asked questions

Is online gambling legal in Canada?

Each province sets its own rules. Ontario and Alberta allow private operators that are registered with the provincial regulator.

Can I play at a casino that is not registered in my province?

In provinces with a regulated market, unregistered sites sit outside that system, so you have fewer protections if something goes wrong. We do not list them.

What if I live in another province?

Check your provincial regulator for what is allowed where you live. We will expand once we can verify a province's rules.
